The team travel to Portugal for a landmark collaboration on the geospatial calendar

For the first time ever, INSPIRE and Geospatial World Forum collaborated to create a landmark event on the geospatial calendar. Together they bought you INSPIRE-Geospatial World Forum 2015, which took place in Lisbon Congress Centre, Portugal.

From 25-29 May, Mappt joined the 1714 delegates from 104 countries. They networked, explored the one thousand organisations showcasing their technology, and attended various presentations and workshops.

On the fourth day our team member Alistair Hart ran his own workshop to discuss using mobile mapping to control diseases. This is a subject Alistair knows all too well, as prior to joining Takor Group he co-developed Australia’s first GIS-based outbreak management system to control Dengue Fever, a mosquito borne disease.

Alistair has many years’ experience working out in the field, and shared his experience of the pros (and mainly cons) of paper and Pocket-PC data collection. During his workshop he revealed new opportunities mobile GIS mapping apps have on the industry, focusing on Mappt, its offline GPS capabilities, and its mobile Android platform which gives users a large screen to look at and long battery life.

There were many other inspiring talks from Key Note Speakers, explaining how technology and global mapping systems integrate and are essential to daily life.

Outside of the forum the team met with European organisations to demo Mappt, and squeezed in a quick trip to Cabo da Rocathe most western point of Europe.
